Men's Squad News
20 Jun - PCRC Representation at Women's Henley
Congratulations to members of the PCRC Women’s Squad on qualifying for and competing at Henley Women’s Regatta held on the famous Henley course.
It was a just reward for over 9 months of hard work put in by Ericha Knowles, Ella Lamming, Sarah Cook, Sally Wallace, Megan Rogers, Claire Hickey, Annabell Pitcher, Bridget Lloyd, Cox Serena Ward and coach Jo Canton to qualify for the Senior Eights event.
The girls gave a good account of themselves in the torrential rain despite being knocked out by University College Dublin.
Also doing the girls of Peterborough proud were 6 members of the PCRC Junior Girls Squad in the Junior 16 Quads. Ellie Austin, Holly Macfarlane, Georgia Swain and Gemma Titchmarsh sadly went out on the Friday to eventual winners Henley RC but should be proud to have made it to such a prestigious event.
Paige Phillips and Megan Lawless teamed up with two girls from Norwich and managed to beat a crew from Sir William Borlase Girls School before sadly being beaten by a composite crew from Wallingford RC and City of Oxford.
12 Jun - Success at the National Masters Regatta
A huge well done to all those who took part in the National Masters Regatta and came back with the biggest medal haul ever achieved by Peterborough City from the event.

Steve Tuck, Anita Carter, Joan Heath and Tim Ellis took Gold in the Mixed Masters C Quad Sculls.
Ian Palmer and Steve Cranfield achieved Silver in the Masters B Double Sculls, as did Joan Heath and Anita Carter in the Women’s Masters D Double Sculls.
Keith Blackman, Glyn Reed, Colin Roberts, Steve Fox and Kate Wallace won Silver in the Masters D Coxed Four before jumping in with Jim Burt, Dave Truss, Graham Barks and Steve Tuck to take Bronze from Broxbourne by a margin of 0.17 seconds in the Masters D Eight.

31 Jan - Boston Head
Well done to everyone who took part at a particularly chilly Boston Head (maybe I was just being a girl! Hang on, can I say that it in post Keys/Gray blunder society? Hmm…)
PCRC had a total of 12 boats turn out at the event and managed a total of 4 wins.
Dan and Ziggy managed a win in the IM3 doubles and Tim and Steve Tuck managed to grab victory in the Mas C 2x, they also managed to finish a credible 3rd in the IM2 Open 4x despite being in a mix masters 4x with Joan Heath and Anita Carter.
Megan Lawless and Paige Phillips made it a Peterborough one/two in the WJ16 1x.
The Mas D 4+ also proved another Peterborough one/two with Steve Fox, Colin Roberts, Glyn Reed and Keith Blackman (Kate Wallace- cox) taking the honours followed by Phil Wadlow, Jim Burt, Jack Ward, Pete Harris (Alex Baker-cox).
Well done again to all who took part.

03 Nov - AGM on Wednesday the 20th of November
Gents,
The AGM is taking place on the 17th of November 2010 at 20:00.
It’d be great if as many of you could attend as possible, it’s a great opportunity to get your voice heard on the way the club is run. There is a committee position that needs filling as Sally Wallace is standing down as Social Secretary.
Social Secretary is a very important but often over looked role in many clubs, it’s important to have a thriving social element to the club and I urge anyone who feels they could bring something to this role to seriously consider standing for it.
If you think the role of Secretary is too demanding I know the Social Committee are always looking for new members and volunteers to help organise the many wonderful social events we have spread out across the year.
If you don’t feel ready to take on any formal role but are interested in doing more for the club then please speak to me or JC about assisting some of the existing committee members. They always need help and it’s a good idea for the long term future of the club to get people to understand the many and varied activities that need to happen to make it run smoothly.
Regards,
Oli

I hope to see you all at the Club “scratch” Regatta on Saturday the 18th of September and the End of Season Ball on Saturday the 9th of October at Orton Hall (tickets are selling fast so get yours from Sally Wallace, Marie Southgate or John Canton now!).

16 Aug - Yet another successful home regatta
A big thank you to all those who helped prepare for and run the regatta this weekend. It was a really successful weekend in terms of the organisation and smooth running of the event and also in rowing terms with the club managing to win the Victor Ludorum with an impressive 17 wins over two days. Congratulations to all the Men’s Squad Winners over the weekend but a special well done to the Men’s Novice 8+ for winning their event and loosing their Novice status. I’ll do a full honour role when I’ve had a chance to flick through the results.Managing to win the Victor Ludorum for both the June and August Regattas is a really big achievement that everyone involved with the club should be proud of.Thank you again for all your help, the regatta wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and support of all the members of the club.Regards,Oli PCRC Men’s Squad Captain26 Jul - Another successfull weekend at St Neots

29 Jun - Ironbridge Regatta 2010- They came from the East...
Well done to all the memebers of the men's sqaud who competed at Ironbridge this weekend!
Over all it was a very successful and enjoyable weekend and I hope you all had a great time. For those who have never been it's well worth the trek and the weekend away!
The role of honor reads thus:
Mas D 4+ (1000m)- Steve Fox, Colin Roberts, Glyn Reed, Keith Blackman- coxed by Gigi
IM3 8+ (1000m)- Matt Barrows, John Cameron, Oli Shelley, James Bizley, Glyn Reed, Jamie Davis, Will Robertson, Keith Blackman- coxed by Gigi
Mas C 4+ (500m)- Matt Barows, James BIzley, Glyn Reed, Keith Blackman- coxed by Gigi
The more eagle eyed of you will have spotted that Glyn, Keith and Gigi won three times over the weekend meaning they won every event they entred so a big well done to them.
A special mention in dispatches needs to go to the Novice Men's 4+ of Aaron, Dave, Stuart and Doug who made it to the final of the 500m event loosing by only half a length. This was made even more impressive by the fact that Aaron had only stepped in as stroke the day before with no previous expreience of stroking a boat- so a big well done the young Mr Taylor and I'm sure we'll be poaching you from the juniro squad soon!
I'd also like to say a big thank you to Steve Pearce who made his coxing debut over the weekend- well done on not hitting anything mate (I wish your Captain could say the same!).
07 Jun - Well done chaps!
Well guys the June Regatta has come and gone and the Victor Ludorum has remained in it’s rightful place thanks to some great results from all corners of the club. A big well done to all those who raced and won at the weekend but special congratulations to Jamie Davis and Dan Boyle for losing their Novices and getting a thoroughly deserved dunking! The less said about the Captain’s rookie mistake leading to him getting wet the better! Thanks to all those who helped out across the weekend, it’s been a fantastic regatta and keeping the Victor Ludorum was the icing on the cake!

04 Mar - PCRC Blazers and Ties
It seems Spring may be trying to spring, which means that Summer will soon be upon us...lazy days spent by gently flowing rivers with Pimms to hand...
Not only can the gentlemen of the club invest in one, so too the ladies, as the blazer is also tailored in a special ladies cut, where required. I can confirm that Collier and Robinson (the club's official tailor) can tailor skirts in the same material, as well.
But that's not all…they can also produce ties, bow-ties (photo below or attached), cravats, waistcoats, boater bands, neckerchiefs, cummerbunds…in fact, pretty much anything you can think of made from silk (I can hear our Gents and Ladies captains guffawing from here!)
As a guide, the costs last time round were as follows:
1. Blazer - £220.00
2. Ties - £25.00
3. Bow-ties - £20.00
4. Cravat - £35.00
5. Knickers - how much were they again Ericha?!
So, if you are interested in expanding your wardrobe, let me know and I will get an up-to-date costing and let you know re measurements etc.
Summers may never be the same again!
Cheers

The intention is to have 2 separate sessions:
Saturday - Sculling
Sunday - Sweep Oar
However this can be altered depending on uptake…
The proposal is for the sessions to be mixed (male/female), and for a BBQ to take place at the club on the Sunday evening (as the Monday is a bank Holiday) … so plenty of meat to be provided.
The club has agreed to subsidise the sessions, so the cost – per session – per rower is to be £10.
At this stage it is impossible to gauge demand versus places, however should it be required, the committee has agreed to give preference to those who will be actively racing in the discipline during the year.
Please could you sign up your interest in the club-house – notices to follow during the week.

20 Feb - Core Stability Training Sessions
This years buzz concept (well it's been around a while but all the same it sounds good) is CORE STABILITY...
.... as defined by Wikipedia as ....
Core stability relates to the bodily region bounded by the abdominal wall, the pelvis, the lower back and the diaphragm and its ability to stabilise the body during movement.Insufficient core stability in the human can result in lower back pain, poor posture and lethargy.
Further CONCEPT II flag the reasons for doing Core Stability training as ...
To facilitate good rowing technique via improved posture.
To increase spinal stability during exercise.
So the point of this entry is what exactly .. well apart from the CONCEPT II page showing some training for core stability to do at home
( http://www.concept2.co.uk/guide/guide.php?article=core_stability )
We have an offer of a taster Core Stability Training programme from Prestons Physio, and should enough think it worth while the chance to run regular sessions from there forward) ...
So please show your interest on the sheets in the club (they will appear soon) and we'll get things moving...
20 Feb - Wednesday night food...

Details for the online log are here

30 Oct - Mens Squad Meeting - 5th November
All - There will be a squad meeting for the mens senior squad next Wednesday 5th November following circuits in the club bar ...
Agenda...
1. Squads .. proposal is for Novices, Senior and Senor Vet to be put together .. this will hopefully allow 2x PCRC mens 8\'s to trian together !
2. Training .. proposal is for circuits to continue on a Wednesday (for all) .. monthly fitness tests (ergo) to be completed for the senior squad, and anyone else who whishes to compete (you\'re actively encouraged to do so as you\'ll put some of the senior squad to shame !) .. a further proposal to get a \'developing scullers\' training plan underway has been put forward to the coaches for escorted river trips (i\'d like to gauge interest).
3. Squad structure .. Proposal is for a competetive \'\'senior\'\' squad in which places in boat are earned through a combination of fitness tests, rowing ability - aim to have a competetive 8 for the tideway with anyone welcome to trial for a place. Further aim to enter as many 4\'s in other head races throughout the season as possible made up from the squad, and members of other squads who wish to race.
4. Races to enter .. proposal is based on the \'\'PCRC Head racing calendar - on the wall in the changing room
5. Any other business (such as squad rugby shirts)
Please feel free to speak openly about the above with me before the meeting - this is a proposal, and it is importantn that the outcome from the meeting represents as many ideals as posisble...
Cheers
Mark
29 Oct - Circuit Training... Wed eve 7pm
Don\'t forget Wednesday night circuits with Ella ... (apparantly this week is the 80\'s special) ... 35mins this week ... starting 7pm
23 Oct - Mens Squad 08-09...
The mens squad is forming for the 2008 - 2009 season, and Head racing is upon us, with a number of crews entered into Huntingdon Head (this weekend - good luck all), and the 4\\'s head for November....
Mark (that\\'s me - the tall bloke who Paddy abuses behind the bar) is currently busy getting together a contact sheet for all male rowing members and understanding what you are interested in doing during the season - be it recreational, developmental, some social racing, or if you harbour some more serious racing ambitions... Please catch up with me if I have not yet managed to find you and let me have your thoughts !... (clean ones only Owen)
For those specifically interested in racing this season, the aim is to create at least 3 8\\'s.. one from the new Novice group ... one from the senior group and one from the senior (vet) group ... with the express aim of training against one another through the season (specifically the last two boats - Keith has laid down the gauntlet)
If you are interested in being involved please see either Me directly ...
Or more specifically ... (contact details are in the boathouse)
Novices - JC - who is setting up training sessions at the weekend
Senior Mens - Mark
Senior Mens (vet) - Keith
Further there is a comittee meeting the week of the 2nd Nov where I will take the mens squads views forward on a number of items such as ...
Use of the gym ... Use of boats ... Racing ... etc...
Please let me know if there is anything you want raised !
Cheers..... Mark
