Women's Squad News
27 Jun - Victor Lindorum success!
Once again we had a very successful Peterborough Spring regatta! we have managed to hold onto the Victor Lindorum for the second year running - as we entered into the last few races of the day we were miles ahead of the nearest club in points for retaining this trophy. Well done to all involved - who are hopefully all named below with the correct event but who knows as my memory is beginning to fade!
Vet D 2x: Joan and Anita
Mx IM2 2x: Anita and Tim
Vet D/E 1x: Joan
Vet B/C 4+: Jo and Hayley - helped along by Liz and Sally from Leicester
Vet A Nv 2x: Bridge and Sarah (dont worry they have been thrown in)
Mx Nv 2x: Claire helped along by Will (proving that training in the boat is over rated!)
The weekend ran smoothly as always and on the sunday we were ahead of time! Thank you to everyone for the cakes and hard work behind the catering stand, rubbish picking up and all the other jobs you end up being roped into! Fingers crossed for another successful regatta in August.
27 Jun - Best ever haul of medals at British Masters!
3 Golds and a silver - and thats just the womens squad alone! The masters ladies are surely putting the rest of us to shame this season - proving that with age comes wisdom and ability! I may now be murdered for making that comment!
CONGRTULATIONS LADIES - roll call below! But frankly its a fantastic result and who needs it to be dry and warm when we row as well as you do in torrential rain!
Gold Masters B 8+: Jo, Hayley and Sarah
Gold Masters C 8+: Jo and Hayley
Gold Mx Masters C 4x: Joan and Anita (with Tim and Steve)
Silver Masters D 2x: Joan and Anita
27 Jun - Womens Henley - who thought we would have made it!
Since 1st October 2010 a squad of 10 ladies set out on forming an 8 for womens henley. This would be the first 8 that Peterborough had entered at womens henley in the events 25 year history. 11 were wittled down to 8 mainly through work getting in the way of training. A winter of hard sessions in the gym along with long, freezing cold sessions on the river led to the womens head of the river and then summer training was focused on competing in 2km races and ultimately the hallowed ground of 1500m of river Thames in Henley.
Friday 17th June was the date we had all been focusing on - it appeared we had entered the international event with 3 crews from Ireland, 2 from America, 1 from the Netherlands and 3 from the UK taking part in womens senior 8's. Some would call us the underdogs but we had trained just as hard as them!
In the first round we were drawn against a crew from University College Dublin - we put up a hard fight but were beaten. However this blow was softened by the fact that Olympic legend Matthew Pinscent was our umpire for the event. Something our cox Serena Ward was rather over excited about especially as he said the name of our club! Torrential rain has led to some rather unfocused pictures emerging of us racing -however as you couldnt even see the other side of the river during our race it wasnt unexpected. Coach Jo Canton and Mens Captain Oli Shelley were unfortunate enough to keep having to leave their shelter to come and figure out if it was us comming down the course or not! The saying water logged was an underestimate for the state of our all in ones.
Following our defeat the rest of the weekend was spent shopping, eating, watching the racing , wearing the multitude of dresses we took (well myself, ericha, serena and annabell fall into this catergory)and hiding from the rain.
It was a brilliant experience and many of us intend to go through all of the blood, sweat and tears again so that we can try for a place next year.
Thank you ladies for making it an entertaining and worthwhile 8 months - at times we have had tears of laughter, pain, frustration and anger but in the end it was all worth it!
Bridget Lloyd, Annabell Pitcher, Claire Hickey, Megan Rogers, Sally Wallace, Sarah Cook, Ella Lamming, Ericha Knowles, Coxy Serena Ward and Charlotte Laluna and Hannah Davies.
To all the subs who got thrown in the boat at somewhat shot notice over 8 months - thankyou and we hope we didnt scare you for life!
A big thank you must also go to our coach Jo Canton who somehow managed to compete herself and cope with us lot for 8 months! She even got us to get rid of our bow side wobble which accompanied our rowing for 7 months and 2 weeks :)
All I can say is that im looking forward to 1st October 2011 when it all starts again - even the ergo tests!
22 Mar - Womens head of the river 2011
Saturday 19th March was the culmination of 6 months of training for 9 Peterborough City Rowing Club members - with the womens tideway race - 4 1/4 miles of blood, sweat and tears! Fueled on a diet of colin the catterpillars, penny pigs and crew favourite percy pigs they finished 143rd out of 303. This is is rise of 13 places on last years finishing position. Well done to Bridge, Annabell, Claire, Megan, Sally, Sarah, Ella, Ericha and not forgetting coxy serena whos first race it was on the tideway. They even manged to over take two crews for their efforts. Not resting on their laurels they are now entering a painful 12 weeks of harder training to determine if they will enter Womens Henley this year.
Congratulations must also go to Jo and Hayley who were competing as part of a composite crew - they finished 58th despite having in their own words a bad row - lets see what they can bring out of the bag at the Vets head in two weeks time to see what a good row brings! Good luck ladies.
22 Mar - Bedford head entries due
PLEASE remember that all entries to Bedford head are due in this Saturday. This is a very popular event and last year we had two full trailers that went. If you wish to enter you must include the boat you want to race in and the division on your entry form and include the money!05 Jan - Happy New Year
What a start to 2011 - the annual new years day race took place and four brave women without hangovers turned up and got the fastest time of the day - due to not technically crossing the line first we didnt win but some slight handicap issues by JC meant we never had a chance of winning! Well done to Sarah Smith, Jo C, Bridge and Ella coxed by Tracey.
4 weeks of frozen water is hopefully comming to an end - however the cut and lake are still frozen solid so outings at weekends will involve transporting the boats either to the staunch or embankment so please build this time into outings and remember to be patient as we do have to wait for the men :)
Indoor training is also going well with groups working round each other in the gym - thank you all for your co operation with this.
Hopefully everybody has had a fantastic festive period and is ready to get back into the swing of training if only to burn off those extra calories from all the over eating!
05 Jan - Ladies Day

20 Nov - Success on the tideway
CONGRATULATIONS - Jo, Hayley, Liz, Sally and Ella (coxing) for winning womens Vet C at the Veteran Fours Head! They won their own catergory by 50 seconds and would have won the Vet B catergory also! It was a race with plenty going wrong as always it came in threes - someone pinching our life jacket, a nasty crab and then a seat jamming - still the crew kept it together and went on to prove that long and strong beats them all!20 Nov - Next ladies day
The next ladies day is planned for saturday 11th November at 9am - sign up in the changing rooms as always! Also remember to sign up for the meal out in the evening also by the 1st December so i can book a table.

The Christmas Party is plaaned for Saturday 18th December - mark the date in your diary and more details will follow!
25 Oct - NEW BLADES
Yesterday afternoon we had the official presentation of the new blades and gadgets to the womens squad. These blades will help us all to get out on the water at the same time and allow the squad to grow without causing further stress on the existing blades. A MASSIVE thank you must go to Paul and Shelia Child who donated the money to the rowing club - this was then sports matched by Sports England allowing us to get a new 8's set of blades, a doubles set and a singles set. Along with this we now a womens squad cox box and two stroke coaches. Anyone wishing to book use of the cox bow or stroke coaches then please see me!
25 Oct - Ladies day
Saturday 30th October at 9am will be the first ladies day of the new season. For those not in the know this is a handicapped head race on the river (5km) for the whole of the ladies squad. Plenty of coaches will be about and there will be photographers and a willing volunteer will be found to video the session. All the hard work will be follwed by tea and cakes back at the club. This is a great opportunity for us all to get together so i hope to see you all there. A sign up sheet is in the changing room so that i have some idea on boats and blades that will be necessary.
13 Sep - End of summer season
What a way to end the summer season than a fantastic haul of wins at Cambridge Autumn Regatta! With 3 novice fours competing we were hopeful that one lot would win and that wish came true for the puddle power disciples as they call themselves or Emma, Michelle, Wendy and Anna coxed by Serena to the rest of us! This win was even more spectacular as Michelle and Emma had just been in the novice 8 final where they rowed through from behind to take victory from broxbourne! So the roll call of people losing their novices was added to with Tracey, Marie, Victoria, Cathy, Mandy and Emily joining Michelle and Emma in the 8, coxed by gobby herself Ella! A good dunking was had by all - pictures im sure will follow! Congratualations also to Jo, Hayley, Anita and Sarah who won the Masters B/C event, Joan and Anita in the IM2 2x, and to Charlotte, Sally, Becky and Hannah who won the IM2 event. This was Becky and Annas last row with PCRC before they return back to university and what a way to say goodbye! I hope to see you all at the interclub scratch regatta on saturday 18th september!12 Jul - HENLEY VETS
Congratualtions to Jo, Hayley and last min sub Bridge for there success at the weekend in coxless fours at Henley Vets. Joan Heath in her single was also victorious in a settling of scores with the lady who beat her last year in Vienna!
Joan and Anita also made it through to the finals where they were scuppered by tall people!
Well done ladies the club is proud.
12 Jul - Call to arms
This year the weed in the rowing lake is just refusing to go away and refusing to stop growing! As such we are again asking for people to help weed the rowing lake. It is currently being cut so it needs gathering onto the bank again. All help is greatly appreciated as we have 9 days until we host a regatta and less weed also makes training easier! I have sent round an email with a rota on it asking for people to fill in the gaps. Anyone not seen to be helping will be chased and then potentially barred from entering our August regatta.
The club is run by volunteers for us all so every little helps!
14 Jun - Masters success at Nat Champs
A BIG well done to Jo, Hayley, Anita and Joan for the success at Nat Champs at the weekend - bringing home the silverwear and some goldwear!
Despite the torrential rain Joan and Anita won silver in the Vet D doubles, Jo and Bruce won silver in the mixed doubles and then Jo and Hayley won silver in the Vet B 8+ and then gold in the VetC/D 8+.
CONGRATUALTIONS TO ALL
11 Jun - Special mention!
A special mention to Joan who was omitted from the press report! She won in her single on both days and had to race 3 times in 75 mins! As our oldest and wisest competitor WELL DONE! I should also mention that she gave up her handicap to race ladies younger than herself on both days - something that I wouldnt be caught doing as I need all the help I can get!09 Jun - SUMMER BBQ
19th June 2010
From 4pm till the last person leaves and locks up!!
Games
Good food
Live music possibly
£4 per ticket £12 for a family of 4
07 Jun - THANK YOU and WELL DONE
The womens squad certainly represented this weekend at our home regatta. I must say a BIG thank you to all who weeded, bakes cakes, cleaned, stung toilet roll together, swept the boathouse, served tea and coffee, served behind the bar, commentated, acted as a runner, collected numbers, picked up rubbish, helped out on the stakeboats or any other jobs you got collered into. We run the regatta for our rowers but also wouldnt be able to do it without all of you! Your help is very much appreciated.
Also WELL DONE to everyone who competed! We had lots of success over the weekend. The novice women got into the finals both days, as did the intermediate squad. On the Sunday we dominated in the fours with both novice boats in the final, the IM3 4+ winning and the IM2 4+ winning, the IM3 8+ getting into the final. We also had a win both days in the masters B/C womens 4+. Joan won in her single over the 1000m beating off the younger competition!
I really hope I havent missed anything out - feel free to beat me about the head if I have!
As always onwards and upwards I say! Next regatta comming up is Ironbridge on the 26th and 27th July. Time to get the tents out and get camping, or stay in a B&B down the road for comfort!
01 Jun - CONGRATULATIONS
The womens squad represented PCRC at the weekend at Doncaster Regatta! We came away with two wins and the ladies quad of Caire, Bridge, Nikki and Sarah made the final of the womens IM3 4x!
Ella lost her novice status and has since been thrown into the rowing lake - winning the womens IM3 4+ in a tight final with Hull university. Well done to Ericha, Megan and Annabell who helped her along! It was a co-ordination off also as Hull had matching kit (including visors) but they didnt have matching socks and therefore lost the battle!
Jo, Hayley, Bridge and Sarah also won the Masters 4+ event!
Well done to all - heres looking forward to another succesful weekend at our home regatta this week!
26 May - PCRC Regatta
Its that time of year again ladies when the green monster invades the rowing lake and we all spend hours raking it out before the regatta! After or before training this week can we ALL spend some time raking the weed out of the lake - many hands make light work as they say! The rakes can be found in the 8's bay at the club or bring your own if you prefer! I also suggest insect repellant, long trousers and wellies!
There are other jobs which need doing and we have orgnised a working party for this so if you are free on Sunday 30th June from 11am onwards then why not pop down and join in the manual labour - it is very much appreciated!
Also cakes need baking, toilet rolls need stringing together and people need to volunteer for bar shifts and tea and coffee making shifts: if we all pitch in it makes this run much smoother.
If you need any tips on what cakes to bake then just get in touch and I will rack my brain to think of something that is easy to make and easy to eat.
All of your help is much appreciated by the committee. If you dont sign up I will have to nag and im sure people dont want this to happen!

20 Apr - Sun brought success for PCRC ladies!
CONGRATULATIONS to Ericha and Ella aka Psycho double who lost their novice status at the weekend at Leicester Regatta! Currently the que to throw them in the river is getting longer by the day so get in quickly!
Jo and Hayley continued their run of success with a win in the coxless four. Jo is now beating her previous seasons best of wins - fingers crossed it continues so she can beat Barks and Essex at the end of season ball.
Joan was also victorious at the weekend with a win in the mixed double with Tim.
Also noted in dispatches are the womens novice quad who were racing at IM3 and only lost by half a canvas in the final! The womens novice four had a good row but unfortunately lost to a very good Burton Leader crew - valuable experience was gained by all.
The first regatta of the season is now over - onwards and upwards. The next local regattas occuring are: Bedford 15th May, Milton Keynes 22nd May and Doncaster on 29th May.
15 Apr - Bumper Entry at Bedford
Last weekend saw the sunshine as well as a bumper Peterborough entry at Bedford head. Comments on the day from the marshalls included 'have all the lights gone off in peterborough' and 'is the rowing lake dry'. A total of 18 boats were put onto the trailer and most raced more than once! Success for the womens squad came from Jo and Hayleys coxless four with Liz and Sally from Leicester. We also had two IM3 4+ crews entered, a Nv 2x, Nv 4x, IM1 4+, Elite 1x, IM3 1x, Joan in her single (Masters ?) and Joan and Anitas double and a double from Hayley and Sarah along with a pair from Hayley and Jo. As you can tell it was a busy day! Congratulations to all who took part.
This weekend (18th April) we have got the first regatta of the year! Entered at Leicester this weekend are: IM3 4+, NV 2x, Nv 4+, Masters C 4-. Good Luck to all!
30 Mar - Focus on the Summer
Bedford head is fast approaching on Sunday 11th April - this is the last head race of the season before we begin to focus on summer regattas.
A sheet is up in the changing rooms detailing boat sharing - feel free to comment if you are happy or unhappy. We all need to work aroud each other as this season we have a record number of womens fours. This also puts pressure on womens blades - you may need to use mens with clams on for the occassional outing. Im currently putting together an application for funding to obtain some more (fingers crossed).
Below is a note on trainig which i have stolen from the mens squad - its very sensible advice to follow:
23 Mar - Lincoln head
CONGRATULATIONS to all who had success at Lincoln this weekend - despite the rain a strong PCRC ladies contingent attended and put in strong performances. A ladies mixed 8 with Lincoln won the open 8's event, whilst the elite mixed 4 with Leicester also won.
Joan and Anita won their doubles event, whilst the novice quad put in a strong performance-particularly as they were a scratch crew!
Many PCRC crews found the reeds that day - especially myself in the double (sorry Ericha) - but valuable experience was gained for all.
17 Mar - WHORR
WELL DONE to everybody who took part in the WHORR this weekend - we had fantastic weather and conditions! A great row was had by all and the ladies IM3 crew finished 155th with a time of 21mins23seconds whilst Jo and Hayley in a composite crew finished 79th with a time of 20mins 40 seconds.
It was the culmination of a hard winters training so congratulations to all involved - coaches, coxes, rowers and spectators! A special thank you from the IM3 crew must go to 'Martha' aka Matthew Barrows for his substituting into the boat at short notice on multiple occassions!
Lets build upon this success and have an equally fantastic regatta season!
17 Mar - Bedford head
Bedford head is on Sunday 11th April - all crews wishing to participate MUST have their completed entries in the box by Sunday 28th March on the form must be the boat the crew wish to use and the division they want to enter! More information will be given this evening at the squad meeting.
08 Mar - 5 days to go!
The womens head of the river is this Saturday and the culmination of 30 weeks of training for the Ladies IM3 crew (I worked this out this morning)!
Peterborough City also has a second boat entering with Jo, Hayley and Sarah teaming up with amongst others Leicester and Rob Roy. I would like to take this opportunity to say Good Luck girls and in the words of Steve Taylor go and beast it!
Apparently Pain is just weakness leaving your body!
Also remember the womens squad meeting on Wednesday 17th March at 8pm (Guinness will be allowed)

Lets see if we can all move forward from this successful weekend and be victorious at our home head race on Saturday 6th Feb. Volunteers as always are required for this event as are cake bakers! Any help is greatly recieved on the day - especially marshalling and litter picking! If you are not racing and have the time to spare then please get in touch.
30 Nov - Weekend Success
Congratualtions to the Ladies IM3 4+ (Sally, Megan, Ella and Ericha coxed by Annabell)for their win at Loughborough head at the weekend - the invention of a second finish 1km before the real one really helped push them on to victory :) I promise Annabell one day i will stop going on about it! The previous week they managed a second place at Star head.
Well done to Jo Canton on her VetC/E 2 x success with help from Lincoln rowing club.
Also congratuations to Ericha on her first coxing pot with the mens Vet C crew. The mens IM2 4+ also tasted success this weekend so a good time was had by both squads.
