Peterborough City Rowing Club were joined by Leicester and Anglia Ruskin for an informal pre-Christmas head race. Conditions were good on the 3.5 km course and 27 crews took to the water: 22 from PCRC, 4 from Leicester and 1 from Anglia Ruskin rowing club (club president Henry Bullough).
Leicester took the honours in the 1x category, with Olly Dix finishing 30 seconds faster than PCRC’s Tim Halliday. PCRC had their revenge in the 2x category, with Steve Cranfield and Ian Palmer seeing off Leicester’s double of Ben Pickering and Joe Hawkins by over a minute and recording the fastest time of the day.
James and Forbes Plumb doubled competitively for the first time to record an impressive time as the 3rd fastest double. PCRC’s Camilla Plumb was the fastest female single sculler and Charlotte LaLuna and Ilektra-Apostolidou had the fastest female double .
In the 4+ and 4x categories, experience won the day, with Steve Fox, Colin Roberts, Keith Blackman and Dan Nicholls (Ed-or a case of age before beauty!) comfortably beating the other 4+ and Jo Canton, Anita Carter, Tim Ellis and Joan Heath seeing off the other 4x to take 3rd place overall. A composite 8 of PCRC/Leicester women recorded the 4th fastest time of the day.
