It was a good day of racing for Peterborough City Rowing Club at the City of Leicester Rowing Club’s annual Regatta. The weather proved promising with only a slight headwind for competitors to face over the tight 700 metre course. Our local club had a number of junior and senior crews taking part in a variety of races during the day, with several athletes coming away undefeated.
Finlay Ribbons won his J14 single scull event and then followed it up with a win in the J14 coxed quad, with his team mates Tom Calverley, Ross Lamont, Brandon Ingle and cox Rosie Turp. His brother Connor Ribbons followed in suitable fashion by winning the J16 double scull with Henry Barnett; they then went on to compete and win in the J16 coxless quad with Ted Smith and George Woodall.
The girls’ crews continued the winning streak when Sarah Watson, Georgina Parker, Hannah Bassett and Jenna Taylor won the women’s open coxless quad over Loughborough University Boat Club. The J15 girls’ quad comprising of Millie Hilton, Chloe Reed, Natalie Bicknel and Freya Woodall was also victorious, with cox Jordan Beale supporting them all the way.
Other wins of the day include Eve Cresswell winning the Women’s J15 single and Tom Jackson and Tom Bodily claiming the boys J15 double title.
Peterborough ended the day in style by winning the Victor Ludorum trophy, which is awarded to the club with the most wins.
